THE FOUNDRY DISTRICT

Yarn-bombing Experience

Yarn-bombing Experience

Exhibition: August 19, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Artists: London Kaye

WHO: The Foundry District Is Getting Yarn-Bombed By International Artist London Kaye During An Evening Of Family-Friendly Fun, Music, and Sweet Treats

WHAT: Brooklyn-based artist London Kaye, in partnership with The Foundry District, will be installing her 20-foot-long crocheted commission piece LIVE on one of the District's buildings during a family-friendly afternoon of art, music, cold sweets, and drinks. Kaye's piece will add to the eclectic line-up of outdoor public art at The Foundry District-- and become one of Fort Worth's largest yarn-bombing experiences. Inspired by the uplifting vision of The Foundry District and their goal to cultivate Fort Worth's arts and culture community, London Kaye will create her newest, three-dimensional artwork "Spread Your Wings and Fly," crocheting a message of joy, love, and light to anyone who views her work.

On August 19, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, The Foundry District will host an experience embracing Fort Worth's yarnbomb-- welcoming one of Fort Worth's favorite live DJ's Ronnie Heart, frozen treats in Alchemy Pops' Chill Out Zone, local food trucks, and a interactive craft station where people can create their own fiber artwork to take home .

The art adventure will continue as The Foundry District invites guests walk across the street and join Art Room for an after party from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm, to launch "SEVEN: FIBERS" -- their first Textile Artisan Pop-Up.

"SEVEN: FIBERS" features six female fiber artists who focus on materials, methodologies, and manual labor as part of the works' significances. Through the delicate weaving, sewing, and construction of fabrics, paper, thread, and yarn, the artists re-contextualize domestic, functional forms into two and three-dimensional works of art that exhibit significant meaning and prioritize aesthetic value over utility. As the artists explore the tactile fiber arts medium, they prolifically examine themes of the female body, peace within the landscape, and the connection between the artist's hand and materials.

Featured Artists: Sheryl Anaya, Taylor Barnes, Molly Beaufait, Jennifer Cummings, Casey Galloway, and Rebecca Shewmaker.
